Terry Williams

Terry Joined LGC Forensics in 2005 as a computer analyst and became the head of the Computer Forensics Unit in 2008.

Involved in computer forensics since 1997 Terry has given Expert Witness evidence many times at Crown and Magistrates Courts as well as at Employment Tribunals and Disciplinary Hearings. The evidence given included explaining both technical and non technical IT related matters to Judges, magistrates, panels and juries. The range and variety of prosecution and defence cases dealt with has been very broad and has included such matters as murder, rape, kidnap, organised crime, divorce, extortion, pedophilia, people trafficking, benefit fraud, graffiti, bullying, voyeurism, fraud, race hate crimes, drug dealing, motor vehicle theft, internet use for selling stolen goods, court martial and internal investigations. A number of these cases have been of a very sensitive nature where confidentiality and discretion has been crucial during the investigation.

Terry spent 10 years with Thames Valley Police carrying out forensics work on computers and mobile phones as well as managing the computer forensics unit together with the Force’s Audio/Video Unit. He dealt with many high profile cases well as researching, writing and presenting accredited training on the use of the ANPR system, enabling Police Officers to give credible evidence in court. He also trained staff that were employed straight from university in continuity and maintaining an audit trail, as well as instilling in them an investigation ethos that many still use today. Terry also set up the Operation Ore computer forensics operations room for Thames Valley Police and introduced a process for the examination of the suspect’s computers and the production of evidence to enable cases to be handled efficiently.

During his time with Thames Valley Police Terry received three commendations: two were from the Chief Constable for his analysis work in convicting pedophiles and the other from the Assistant Chief Constable for his computer forensics work into the investigation of death of a high profile figure.

Prior to joining Thames Valley Police Terry was employed by BT for 25 years where his roles encompassed many areas of the business, including Engineer, Lecturer, Project Manager and Process Change, Problem Management Manager.
